Friday the 11th of February marks the International Day of Women and Girls in Science. Founded by the UN, this day recognises the critical (and often overlooked) role women and girls play in STEM.

Unfortunately, women are underrepresented in science. They face additional challenges in academia and industry; according to UIS data, less than 30% of the world’s researchers are women. As scientists, we have a responsibility to help women recognise their potential in STEM, to become not only beneficiaries but agents of change.

We mean it when we say that gender doesn’t matter at RoukenBio. 69% of our employees are women including 3/6 of our executive suite.

We wish our beliefs were commonplace.

The International Day of Women and Girls in Science celebrates the achievements of women and girls in STEM. However, it’s also a reminder of the work required to increase the participation of women in STEM for a more inclusive and equitable society.

The world needs the talents and perspectives of women and girls in science, and it’s up to us to ensure that they have equal opportunities. We’re shining the spotlight on some of our scientists who just so happen to be women.

Our Chief Business Officer Adele is a skilled scientist with experience in both academia and the biotech industry. Her knack for scientific writing and commercial know-how have contributed significantly to RoukenBio and the wider immunology industry.

“If we see someone ‘like us’ succeeding, it’s incredibly powerful and can signal the way for others to follow.”

Our Chief Operations Officer Jennifer has extensive research experience in immunology before switching to operations and strategic roles in CROs.

“Inclusion means policies and frameworks that allow women to succeed as the next generation of leaders.”
